Amsterdam Falafelshop is one of the landmark DC restaurants about which city residents are always raving. Since beginning school at Georgetown University two years ago, I’ve waited for a chance to try it myself. Finally, thanks to a Clean Currents meeting, I got to check this off of my DC bucket list! (For those of you who don’t know, Amsterdam Falafelshop is 100% wind powered by Clean Currents, because at this restaurant, every detail contributes to the amazing taste and unique experience!)
Located in the vibrant Adams Morgan neighborhood, the storefront of Amsterdam Falafelshop appeared unassuming, raised up above the street. Yet upon entering, I was enveloped in delicious smells of mouthwatering spices. The reputation of the food was immediately clear — with just a handful of options, the restaurant was packed for a Thursday at lunchtime. After choosing small or regular, wheat or white, I was handed a pita pocket of happiness.
Now faced with a bar of about 20 signature toppings I stuffed my falafel sandwich full of sauces and vegetables, and dug in!
Messy, and extremely delicious.
I cannot believe I went two years without Amsterdam Falafel in my life! As time goes on, I expect this place will only continue to grow in popularity. With two additional locations in Annapolis and Boston, I’m excited that this delicious fare is expanding. For any customers of the original DC location- look out for the Clean Currents Wind Power Rewards program that we’re very proud to be promoting. Be sure to check out the information next to the register for a $35 gift card when you stop by!
