There's a new member of the Certified B-Corporation club in Maryland. Nana Design, a Wheaton based marketing and design firm just announced they passed the stringent certification process and are now a certified B Corp. Nana Design joins the thirteen firms already certified in the state, including none other than Clean Currents!
Here at Clean Currents we are thankful that our design firm has joined us in the movement of businesses putting their commitment to sustainability into their legal DNA. I’m hoping that several other Clean Currents partners will join this trend.
Montgomery County Green Business Program
A very well run program by the county’s Department of Environmental Protection, this program requires a third party audit of your property and a fairly stringent questionnaire on your practices at your facility. It only certifies a “property,” meaning it does not certify your entire corporate actions. Thus, some non “green” companies can achieve certification if they have green practices at an office location. Learn more about this program HERE
A national program run out of the non profit’s DC office, this program does not require a third party audit, but it does require a pledge on your businesses practices as a corporate entity, not just what you are doing at a particular property. There are about 175 Green America businesses in Maryland and close to 400 in DC. Learn more about this program HERE
Maryland Green Registry
This is the least stringent certification, and thus acts as a good training ground/entry level program for businesses that are not green per-se, but may want to learn more about what sustainability is all about. Learn more about this program HERE
If you are already a green business we encourage you to work with your vendors and partners to introduce them to green certification. The only certification that affects every aspect of your business is the B Corporation status. However, any level of certification is a good step forward.

I'm like many mothers I know, concerned about the planet our kids will inherit and overwhelmed by daily life. Clean Currents made it simple and affordable to switch to 100% wind power, without breaking my back or the bank.
