Maryland Clean Energy Company Named to Exclusive “Best of the World” List
(SILVER SPRING, Md, 5/30/13) — Clean Currents announced today that it is being recognized for its environmental excellence as a 2013 Best for the Environment honoree. This designation is given as part of the B Corporation “Best of the World” award to Certified B Corporations who score in the top 10% of the Environmental Impact category. The diverse list of honorees includes businesses from 30 industries and 11 countries. Patagonia, Method, and Seventh Generation are also recognized.
Environmental sustainability is at the core of Clean Currents’ mission. Clean Currents was founded in 2005 with the mission of energizing communities for a clean energy future by enabling individuals and businesses to make responsible choices that protect their bottom line while reducing their environmental impact. The company minimizes the environmental impact of its business operations and offers a unique Green Benefits package to employees.
“We aim to be the greenest energy company in the country, and this recognition is a validation of our efforts to meet that goal,” says Gary Skulnik, Clean Currents co-Founder and President. “Being named to the “Best of the World” list is an honor that helps set us apart from the myriad of other energy companies who talk a good green game, but are not truly committed to building a cleaner, greener future.”
Clean Currents was one of the first companies in the state of Maryland to get certified as a B Corp and was the first company in the state of Maryland and the United States to file to become a Benefit LLC.
Certified B Corps voluntarily meet higher standards for transparency, community engagement and environmental impact. Collectively, they are changing the way business is done — making the triple bottom line as important and effective as the financial bottom line.
