Bozzuto Purchases 100% Wind Power RECs for its Maryland Headquarters
Greenbelt, MD, May 13, 2013 – The Bozzuto Group, a privately held, integrated real estate services organization, is proud to announce that for the second year in a row it has purchased Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from wind farms in the United States to offset 100% of the electricity it uses at the company’s Greenbelt, Maryland headquarters.
By purchasing Green-e Energy® Certified RECs through Maryland-based energy supplier Clean Currents, The Bozzuto Group is helping to ensure that for every megawatt hour of electricity used at their headquarters, a wind power project in the U.S. will deliver one megawatt hour of renewable energy to the power grid.
Using calculations from the EPA, The Bozzuto Group’s REC purchase of 1,151 MWh of electricity is equivalent to removing 812 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2e) emissions from the atmosphere, or the amount of CO2 generated annually by 169 passenger vehicles.
“One of our company’s core values is Concern for the people and the communities we touch. Purchasing renewable energy just makes sense for both our headquarters and our properties,” said Thomas Lee, Sustainability Project Manager for The Bozzuto Group. “We are proud to support clean, U.S. based wind-powered electricity generation through our purchase because it will reduce the amount of pollution emitted over our communities.”
“We applaud this initiative by The Bozzuto Group. The company has clearly set the example at their headquarters, as an increasing number of Bozzuto-managed communities are also turning to 100% wind power for their common areas,” said Gary Skulnik, president of Clean Currents.
